Compounds with Phosphatidylcholine

It has been proven that phosphatidylcholine has the ability to improve the solubility and absorption of pharmaceutical active ingredients that are either insoluble or barely soluble in water or only soluble in physiologically unacceptable solvents. In pharmaceutical applications, phosphatidylcholine may reduce objectionable side effects of drug substances and thereby render them physiologically more tolerable. For example, phosphatidylcholine can protect the gastrointestinal tract while non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are being administered.
Besides their application in the pharmaceutical oral and parenteral fields, compounds with phosphatidylcholine featuring higher concentrations of phosphatidylcholine are also suitable for dermal pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications.
The designations in the PHOSAL® brand names clearly indicate the medium present in a particular product e.g. medium-chain triglycerides (MCT), sunflower oil (SB), safflower oil (SA) and propylene glycol (PG).
All ingredients that form the compounds with phosphatidylcholine are of food-grade quality and provide excellent carriers of natural phosphatidylcholine and lipophilic active ingredients, e.g. vitamins and essential oils.
Liquid compounds can directly be incorporated into:

- shampoos
If used as nutritional supplements, they are preferentially administered in capsule form. They are high-value media for phosphatidylcholine and essential fatty acids.
In some applications in the pharmaceutical, the cosmetics and the dietetics markets, a functional carrier for active ingredients is required. A powdered mixture of phosphatidylcholine and e.g. maltodextrin fulfils this role. It acts as a carrier but also as a solubilizer and bioavailability enhancer of active ingredients. The powdered compound can be applied in oral or topical pharmaceutical formulations, in cosmetic products and in dietary supplements as well.
